While the Mohs' Hardness test was developed originally for testing minerals, the same concept can be applied to industrial materials. Use this kit for "scratch testing" substances to determine their Hardness according to the Mohs' Hardness scale, which ranges from 1 to 10, where Diamond is the hardest at 10, while Talc is softest at 1.
How do you use the hardness picks? Simply scratch a smooth surface of your material with the picks of various indicated hardness. As an example, if a No. 5 pick scratches the material, but a No. 4 pick does not, then your material’s hardness is 4.5.

I recently bought two (2) sets of Mohs hardness test kits and I must say that I am very happy with the quality of the product and the service by Mineral Lab. It was a hustle free transaction and they shipped faster than Speedy Gonzales could. Maxwell Mwanza on Jul 1st 2024
Brilliant and handy tool for testing of Moh Hardness of the substrate and finishes that we are working on. This tool fits perfectly for the conservation of monuments and historic buildings repairs in my trade. Bought 3 sets for the conservation consultants’ juniors to train them on how to determine the subsequent repairs or treatment needed based on the existing hardness of the surfaces.

In the past year I became curious about minerals and rocks, and I started building a test kit for samples I came across. One thing I was missing was an accurate way to test the hardness of my finds. After som research, I decided on the Mohs' Hardness Test Kit. I wasn't sure what to expect so when the kit arrived I was quite impressed. The quality and portability are great and after testing a few of my known mineral samples, it is accurate enough to help me identify my finds. Thank you for doing a great job. If you get a hand lens, make sure it's a Belomo triplet. If you get MOHs hardness picks, make sure to buy Mineral Lab. One of the definitive mineral identification tools every rock-hound should own. Though not inexpensive, it will last you a lifetime. JOHN C SLANEY on Aug 3rd 2021
It's a MOH's hardness test kit like every MOH's hardness test kit. It works well and I was astonished at the speed of delivery. Unknown on Dec 23rd 2020
