Until recently, diamond simulants could be distinguished from genuine diamond using a thermal tester like the Mizar Diamond Detective above. However, the recent introduction of synthetic Moissanite has necessitated a second test to make sure that what first tests as diamond is not in fact moissanite. The Moissanite Terminator II is designed to perform this test. To use, press the button and note the green testing light will come on. Then touch the probe tip to a clean and dry stone, either mounted or unmounted. If moissanite or synthetic diamond are detected, the green Moissanite light will flash on and off, accompanied by an intermittent audible beep.
