Which Specific Gravity Device is right for your application?  (Pay close attention to the Min. and Max. Weight ranges listed)

Mineral Hydrometer:

bulletPrice: $79
bulletMin. Weight: 1 gram
bulletMax. Weight: 20 grams
bulletFeatures: Suited for field use and/or the mineral hobbyist - our most affordable unit.  You must be adept at basic arithmetic and at working with numbers.

Direct Reading Balance:

bulletPrice: $129
bulletMin. Weight: .15 grams - equals .75 carats
bulletMax. Weight: 30 grams
bulletFeatures: Its high degree of sensitivity makes it a good tool for gemstone identification (except for the smallest of stones), but it's also an excellent choice for mineral ID.  Its direct reading feature makes it very easy to use.

Electronic Scale w/SG Kit:

bulletPrice of SG Kit: $79 (Your only cost if you already have an electronic scale)
bulletPrice of Scale: $179 to $1,495, depending on model
bulletMin. Weight for SG: .02 carats to 2 carats, depending on model
bulletMax. Weight: 32 to 200 grams, depending on model
bulletFeatures: The more sensitive scales are ideal for small gemstones.  This is also the fastest and most user-friendly of all devices featured here.  If you already have an Electronic Scale, or need a precision Electronic Scale anyway, this is probably the best way to go for specific gravity measurements.

Beam Balance w/SG kit:

bulletPrice: $224
bulletMin. Weight for SG: About 1.5 grams
